# Ban BOLOs

> Flag players to be banned on sight, then complete or invalidate the BOLO.

***

## What is a Ban BOLO?

A Ban BOLO (Be On the Lookout) flags a player who should be banned the next time they're seen. Use it when a player has left before you could ban them.

Active Ban BOLOs have a yellow border. Staff with the Ban permission see them pinned to the top of [Punishment Logs](/Modpanel/logs/punishmentlogs).

***

## Creating a Ban BOLO

<Note>
  Requires the Ban Bolo permission.
</Note>

Create a log with the **Ban Bolo** type, like any other log. See [Creating Logs](/Modpanel/logs/creating).

***

## Completing a Ban BOLO

<Note>
  Requires the Ban permission.
</Note>

Click **⋮** on an active Ban BOLO and select **Complete (ban user)**.

* A Ban log is created under your name.
* The BOLO is marked as completed by you.
* If the player has moderation DMs turned on, they're notified with the original BOLO reason.

Creating a regular Ban log for a player with an active BOLO also completes the BOLO automatically.

### Banning in-game

If Manual Ban BOLO Completion is turned on in [Dashboard → ER:LC](/Dashboard/erlcintegration/home), Melonly also bans the player from your ER:LC server when you complete the BOLO. You need the ER:LC Admin or ER:LC Co-Owner permission for the in-game ban.

***

## Invalidating a Ban BOLO

If a BOLO was a mistake, click **⋮** and select **Invalidate ban BOLO**. The BOLO is marked as denied by you and is no longer active.

***

## Automatic Ban BOLOs

Your server can create Ban BOLOs automatically.

| Setting | Where | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| Create Ban BOLO after Punishment Logs Count Reached | Dashboard → Panel | Creates a Ban BOLO once a player's warnings and kicks reach a set count. |
| Automatic Ban BOLO Completion | Dashboard → ER:LC | Bans a player with an active Ban BOLO as soon as they join your server. |

Automatic BOLOs show System as the staff member.
