# Command Bar

> Dispatch units, set statuses, and create calls from a keyboard-first command line

The Command Bar is an optional keyboard-first dispatch tool. Type a short command to assign units, change status, create calls from saved templates, add notes, or close a call — without clicking through menus.

It is meant for experienced dispatchers. Add it as a **Quick Action** when you want it on the bar; it is not required to use CAD.

## Enable the Command Bar

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Quick Bar Favourites" icon="star">
    On any service or dispatch panel, click the star icon on the right of the secondary bar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Command Bar" icon="plus">
    Choose **Command Bar**. A compact button appears on the bar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open it" icon="terminal">
    Click **Command Bar**, or embed it in a [custom layout](/CAD/User/layouts).
  </Step>
</Steps>

The input suggests commands, units, calls, and saved call names as you type. Arguments with spaces can be wrapped in `"double quotes"`.

## Commands

Unit and call arguments must match **one** unit or call. If several names match, the command asks you to be more specific. After you view a call with `V`, later commands can omit the call argument and use that viewed call.

| Command | Aliases | What it does | Usage |
| - | - | - | - |
| `D` | `DISPATCH` | Assign a unit to a call | `D <UNIT> [CALL]` |
| `C` | `CLEARUNIT` | Remove a unit from a call | `C <UNIT> [CALL]` |
| `IS` | `IN` | Set status to Available | `IS <UNIT>` |
| `OOS` | `OUT` | Set status to Unavailable | `OOS <UNIT>` |
| `B` | `BUSY` | Set status to Busy | `B <UNIT>` |
| `ER` | `E` | Set status to En route | `ER <UNIT>` |
| `A` | `OS`, `S` | Set status to On scene | `A <UNIT>` |
| `NEW` | `NC` | Create a call from a saved call template | `NEW <SAVED CALL> [UNIT] [POSTAL] [DESCRIPTION]` |
| `SI` | — | Self-initiated call from a saved template, assigned to you | `SI <SAVED CALL> [POSTAL] [DESCRIPTION]` |
| `CP` | `CF`, `CE`, `CLOSE` | Close a call | `CP [CALL]` |
| `V` | `VIEW` | Open the call editor for a call | `V <CALL>` |
| `N` | `NOTE` | Add a text note to a call | `N <CALL> <NOTE>` |
| `CLR` | — | Clear the currently viewed call | `CLR` |

Units can be an individual callsign or a group name. Calls can be a call ID (`#12345`), title, or postal when that uniquely identifies one open call. `V` can also target closed calls.

## Saved calls

`NEW` and `SI` use **saved call templates** from the call editor. Templates sync across your devices, so a template saved on one computer is available in the Command Bar on another.

`NEW` can optionally dispatch a unit as the call is created. `SI` always attaches your current unit or group and sets the origin to Radio.

<Info>
  You must already be in a unit to use `SI`.
