# Licence Suspensions

> Create the suspension charges officers pick when suspending a licence, with their duration and demerit points.

## What are Licence Suspension Charges?

Licence suspension charges are the reasons officers pick when suspending a licence from the Police panel. Each one sets how long the suspension lasts and any demerit points. You can have up to 50.

  Until you add at least one suspension charge, officers can't suspend licences.

## Adding a Suspension Charge

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Licence Suspensions">
    In the CAD admin panel, open **Law** → **Licence Suspensions**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a charge">
    Click **Add charge** and fill in the fields below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save Changes** (`Ctrl` + `S`). Officers can use it straight away.
  </Step>
</Steps>

| Setting | Description |
| - | - |
| Act, Code, Name | Required. Together they must be unique. |
| Suspension Duration | How long it lasts, in RP days (at least 1). |
| Demerit Points | Optional points added with the suspension, 0 to 50. |

## Using Them in Templates

Record templates can use these charges too, through a licence suspension section. If you delete a charge a template uses, that template can't be filed until it's updated. See [Template Editor](/CAD/Admin/template-editor#sections).
